Medicare Mental Health Benefits

If you’re experiencing symptoms of depression, talk to your doctor about getting a depression screening. Medicare covers a depression screening once per year, and you pay nothing if your doctor accepts assignment. Medicare also covers other mental health services, so you can get the care you need. Learn more by watching this video from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Different Parts of Medicare

Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older, people under 65 with certain disabilities, and people of any age with End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), permanent kidney failure requiring dialysis, or a kidney transplant. Breast Cancer Awareness Month - Early Detection Is Important

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each year, more than 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer, making it one of the most common cancers in women. In the United States, one in eight women will get breast cancer and of those, one in 10 will be under the age of 45. If you’re between the ages of 50-74, you should have a mammogram every year. If you’re on Medicare, this screening is covered at no cost to you. Early detection with a mammogram is key to fighting breast cancer. Talk to your doctor about when you should have a mammogram and watch this video from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) about early onset breast cancer and risk factors.

Are You at Higher Risk for Severe Illness from Flu or COVID-19 this Fall?

Getting a flu vaccine during the 2020-2021 flu season is more important than ever because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Flu vaccination is especially important for people who are at high risk from flu, many of whom are also at high risk for COVID-19 or serious health outcomes. Watch this video from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to learn if you or a loved one is at higher risk this flu season.

Prostate Cancer Awareness Month

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, dedicated to increasing awareness and encouraging men to have a talk with their health care providers about early detection. In the United States, 160,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer each year, and about 30,000 die from the disease. Early detection is the key to successful treatment. Prostate cancer screenings are covered by Viva Health and Viva Medicare. Call your Primary Care Physician (PCP) today to see if you need to be screened and watch this short video from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Protect Yourself and Others this Flu Season by Getting Your Flu Shot

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses, like flu, this fall and winter is more important than ever. CDC recommends getting a flu vaccination in September or October. The flu shot helps to protect you and your loved ones from flu and can also reduce the burden on hospitals and healthcare systems. The flu shot is covered by your Viva Health and Viva Medicare plan. Call your Primary Care Physician to schedule your flu shot or go to a local pharmacy. Check out this video with CDC epidemiologist Michelle Hughes who answers three commonly asked questions about flu season.

5 Things to Know about Telehealth

It’s important that you stay connected with your doctor during the COVID-19 public health emergency and continue addressing any issues or concerns related to your health. Telehealth is a great resource offered by most doctor’s offices. Viva Medicare members can have telehealth visits from any location with any in-network provider who is providing medically appropriate covered services with no copayment through December 31, 2020. Viva Health is also waiving cost-sharing for many commercial members using telehealth services from in-network providers for COVID-19-related visits. Some employer plans also include telehealth visits through Teladoc or other vendors. Visit VivaHealth.com for more information, and watch this video presented by the Department of Health and Human Services to learn more about telehealth.
